It is often viewed that science and art are separate disciplines that do not share much common ground. For visual storyteller and chemical engineer Kestrel Reyes, however, there exists a unique bond between the orderly laws of nature and the freedom of artistic expression—one that persists to realize her work. For Reyes, the process of creating demands shifting between viewing things as complete wholes and as intricate collections of parts, challenging viewers to explore different ways of seeing and perceiving.
There is a kind of surrender to both the rugged and the fine, to forms that are imperfectly perfect, and to objects that are at once humble and complex. Grounded in this very ethos and an enduring quest for understanding, Chaos and Control offers a window to discover the intricacies of the natural world through a series of avian studies and abstract landscapes.
This collection of works posits that life, much like the pursuit of art and science, finds its true richness in embracing the beauty in chaos and the precision and clarity of control.
